What is Low Back Pain?

Low back pain is one of the most common causes of discomfort and affects the spine between the lowest rib and the top of the buttocks. It can be caused by a variety of conditions, including muscle spasms or strains, herniated discs, spinal stenosis, osteoarthritis, fractures, vertebral misalignments, infections, or even tumors. Depending on the cause, the pain may feel dull and achy, sharp, or even radiating down into the legs.

How do you treat Lower Back Pain?

We use chiropractic adjustments to realign the spine and relieve pressure on the nerves, as well as lumbar decompression therapy to gently stretch the spine and reduce pain. Electrical muscle stimulation or a TENS unit may also be used to relax tight muscles and ease discomfort. Modifying activities that aggravate the pain is key to promoting healing.

Is there anything I can do for Lower Back Pain at home?

Applying ice for 10-15 minutes can help reduce swelling, while warm, moist heat for 8-10 minutes can relax tight muscles. Massage therapy, exercises, and stretching can improve mobility and help prevent future flare-ups. Over-the-counter pain relievers, prescription medications, and muscle relaxers may provide relief. In some cases, bracing can offer additional support, and for severe conditions, surgery may be required.
