Sciatica
Pain doesn't have to control your daily life. Find relief with chiropractic care.
What is Sciatic Pain?
Sciatic pain occurs when the sciatic nerve—one of the largest nerves in the body—becomes irritated or compressed, causing pain that radiates from the lower back down into the hips, legs, and even feet. The pain may feel sharp, burning, numb, or tingly, and it can affect one or both sides of the body. The most common cause is a herniated disc pressing on a nerve root, but other conditions like spinal stenosis, bone spurs, or tight piriformis muscles can also contribute.
How do you treat Sciatica?
We use chiropractic adjustments to relieve pressure on the sciatic nerve, along with lumbar decompression therapy to create space between the vertebrae. Electrical muscle stimulation or a TENS unit may also help relax muscles and reduce pain signals. Modifying activities that worsen the pain is important for recovery.
Is there anything I can do for Sciatica at home?
Performing gentle stretches and strengthening exercises can help relieve pressure on the nerve and prevent future flare-ups. Applying ice for 10-15 minutes at a time can reduce inflammation, while over-the-counter pain relievers, prescription medications, or steroids may help manage discomfort. Physical therapy can also aid in long-term recovery. In severe cases, surgery may be necessary.
